Understanding information processing by the brain’s synaptic networks is expected to require models of network connection topology, the diverse firing properties of individual neurons, and the diverse functional dynamics of individual synapses. Worldwide, many efforts are under way to constrain such models based on electron microscopy, optophysiological and electrophysiological experimentation. This lecture will explore ways that super-resolution fluorescence imaging methods may help to integrate and extend synaptic network models based on these distinct methodologies.
